Deuteronomy 6:6-7

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Memoria Press #2- The Wars of the Jews - A Crew Review

We have been homeschooling for 12 years now, and in that time, I have come to know and trust certain curriculum companies. As a Christian wife, mother, and homeschool teacher, it is very important to me that our children receive solid Biblical teaching in their education. I have had the privilege of using and reviewing products from Memoria Press in the past, and when I see their name, I know that the material is going to be spot on in quality as well as content. This time around, I was excited to receive The Wars of the Jews Set to review.

Included in this set are the following:
- The Wars of the Jews Set - The Fall of Jerusalem Text
-The Wars of the Jews Student Guide
- The Wars of the Jews Teacher Guide

This set is suitable for grades 9 and up to adults. It is a somewhat short course, with 10 lessons, and then a review of all of the chapters. This is a beneficial study for your Bible and Christian courses, as it teaches about Josephus and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. As the teaser on the back of the book The War of the Jews - The Fall of Jerusalem states, "We teach our children Christ's prophecy, but do they ever learn about the fulfillment of it?" This set will aid you in doing just that.

The format is quite simple to follow and implement, for both students and teachers. The Student Guide and the Teacher Guide are basically the same, with the obvious difference being that the Teacher Guide contains the answer key and tests. Independent students only need to open to the Table of Contents in the Student workbook to find the selected readings from the text for each lesson. After the reading, they will move to the appropriate page in their workbook for the written assignments.

The assignments are broken down into three sections:

- Facts to Know - This section includes the main subjects, events, people, and terms for a particular chapter.

- Vocabulary - This section contains, yes you guessed correctly, vocabulary words found within the chapter.

- Comprehension Questions - This section is where students will put the first two sections to work, as they recall what they learned in the chapter and fill in the blanks.

Table of Contents make the lessons easy to follow.

Teacher Guide provides the answer key.

Student workbook is fill in the blanks.

One of the tests.

What will students learn in this course? They will learn about the man called Titus Flavius Josephus, the Jew turned Roman citizen. Students will learn about the Jewish war, the destruction of Jerusalem. They will learn about some of the prominent names that played a part in events. The Facts to know and the vocabulary section are absolutely wonderful, teaching the names for months of the year, the definitions and meanings for military terms, as well as key historical figures of the time. For me alone, as my daughter's instructor, I would have been lost without these helps.

The text offers illustrations and photos to aid students in understanding the text and certain terms.

I used, and still am using this with my 15 year old 9th grader- technically 10th grader
, at this point in the year. We started out with her working independently, 3 to 4 times per week. It quickly become apparent that although my daughter is a fantastic independent worker, the writing style of the material of this set is such that she comprehends and retains it better when we work together. At this point, we are halfway through the course. After she finishes, I will order another Student Workbook and my 13 year old, 8th, but soon to be 9th grader, will take this course as well.

As I have found with other courses that I have used from Memoria Press, this is a well organized, thoughtful, intelligent course. There is no fluff. I know that when we include a course from this company, the quality of the educational content is superior. This is absolutely a beneficial study that will enrich your homeschool Bible/Christian studies.
