Deuteronomy 6:6-7

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7

I know that I'm not the only Christian parent that is concerned with the path that our culture is taking. We're in a battle for the hearts and minds of our children. If you're like me, your desire for your kids, is to instill in them, a solid faith in God that will stand.  Pilgrim's Rock, LLC. is a company that can help in this vital task. They provided our family with access to  The Unbreakable Faith online course on Christian apologetics to use and review.

The course has been created for use by students and adults that are 15 years and on up to adults. After using this over the past month, I agree that this is a class for mature students. Assignments are a blend of online videos and two paperback textbooks. The teacher is Craig Biehl, who is the founder of Pilgrim's Rock, LLC., as well as the author of the two required textbooks.

The setup is pretty simple, and the course is well organized. Your dashboard will provide you with all of the information you need to access the course. Clicking on the My Courses link will take you to your course page, where you will find a syllabus, and all of the parts of the course, in order. There are 36 weeks' worth of assignments, divided into six Parts. The course is self paced, so the work may be finished at a faster rate if desired. You should know that once you begin the course, all work must be completed within 36 weeks of the start date.  The assignments are a blend of readings from the text, online videos, quizzes, and exams. Upon completion, one full high school credit is earned.

The assignments are well organized and easy to follow, just go through each one, consecutively.

The videos are short, approximately 10-15 minutes each, give or take a minute or two. They begin with a snippet of a hymn, sung by various artists or choirs. I really enjoy that. The music is lovely, reverent, and relaxing. You'll find that the videos are based off of the text, and for me, hearing the material in that way, as well as seeing the illustrations and photos in that film type format helps to reinforce what I'm reading. I like the length too, as it's enough to get the message across without the viewer losing interest.

The videos are short, and reflect the material in the textbooks.

The first textbook to be read is The Box: Answering the Faith of Unbelief. This will be read in its entirety to complete Part One of the course. It's an easy read, with a slightly larger font, set up mainly as a hypothetical dialogue between two neighbors, Mr. C, and Mr. A.. The C stands for Christian, and the A first stands first for Atheist, but then switches to Agnostic. It's a whimsical take on a Christian neighbor sharing his faith with his unbelieving neighbor, and how he makes the case for the existence of God. In between the supposed conversations, author Craig Biehl demonstrates the logic and science that point to the Creator. I appreciated the manner in which the two neighbors interacted. Mr. C. was always friendly, and KIND, while still being honest and direct about his faith. At times, I've cringed inwardly as I watched a Christian share their faith, but with a judgmental, pushy, and all around off-putting attitude. This provides a good example in how to converse in a respectful way.

A conversation between Mr. C. and Mr. A.

The second textbook is God the Reason: How Infinite Excellence Gives Unbreakable Faith. This is a longer read, and is broken down into several chapters to be read per Part. It is a meatier read. I am a fast reader, but this book has found me needing to move a bit more slowly, even rereading parts so that I can take the material in better. There are only 15 chapters, but they are packed with information. Every chapter provides Endnotes at its conclusion, helping to explain certain parts with a bit more explanation, along with Scripture references.

Forgive my crooked photos. This quote by J.I. Packer spanned two pages, and the flow is interrupted a bit, but I like this analogy.

What will students (and adults) learn from Unbreakable Faith? Simply put, they will be taught to see how arguments for unbelief don't make sense. They will see that in truth, all of the evidence is available to us to articulate the logic behind the existence of a Designer. I confess that more often than not, I have relied on a "simple faith" in my own approach to belief, meaning, I just believe in God. We do need that simple faith, and certainly, God's ways are not our ways. I just mean to say that I wasn't overly concerned with presenting evidence to unbelievers. However, I'm seeing things a little differently now. Within the past year or so, one of my teens has asked me how we really know that God exists. While it seems that my responses to her helped answer questions, this course presents the argument in a much better way.

After completing the readings and videos for each section, there is a timed quiz. I'll admit that I was nervous! I did alright though, lol, and even pulled off an A on that first quiz, whew. There is a final exam at the end of the course- I'm not there yet. There is a Grades section on your course page where you can view your scores, your percentage, and letter grade, and how much each section of the course contributes to your final grade.

I have been the one in our family taking this course for this review, and now that I'm going through it, I will be having both of my daughters take it as well. I'm confident that this will not only answer questions they have, but will equip them for an increasingly post Christian culture. My daughters won't be the only ones either. My husband skimmed through the chapters, and can't wait to get his hands on these books. Are you looking for a solid apologetics course? I recommend this one!
